What is a lithophane?

A lithophane is a thin plate whose thickness varies with the brightness of a photo — thick where the picture is dark, thin where it is light. In normal light it looks like a plain white relief. Put a light behind it and the thin areas glow while the thick ones stay dark, so the photo appears in full detail.

What sizes and shapes can I order?

Which photos work best?

Sharp photos with good contrast where the subject fills most of the frame: close-up portraits, couples, pets and family groups. Very dark or very busy photos lose detail. The preview shows the backlit result before you order, so you can try a few photos and pick the best.

What light do I need to see the photo?

Any light behind it works — hold it up to a window, stand it in front of a lamp, or back it with an LED panel or a warm-white strip. The lithophane itself is printed in white PLA and has no electronics.

Can I get a lamp, a box or several photos in one piece?
