How it works

1. 1. Drop in a silhouette. It is sized to fill what the lamp can reach, centred on the lamp.
2. 2. Each of the four walls is worked out from the light's point of view: wherever the LED should be blocked to draw your shape, the wall is solid; wherever light should pass, it is cut away.
3. 3. The walls are traced back with light rays to show the real shadow, and compared with your artwork so you can see exactly where it differs.
4. 4. Order the lamp and we print it in black, fit the LED and your front panel, and ship it — or buy the STL and print the walls yourself.

Getting a great shadow

Keep the outline bold. The walls are magnified many times over on the way to your wall — near their tips, a 1 mm detail becomes several centimetres. So big, confident shapes read best, and hairline gaps close to the lamp may be too small to print.

Use inner lines for character. Light lines inside the silhouette — a face, a belt, folds of cloth — become glowing strokes. The wall shadow view marks them in red if they would not come through.

Mind the reach. The shadow can only reach as far as the tips of the walls allow. Taller walls or an LED closer to them throw a bigger shadow, but a softer one.

Common questions

How does a shadow lamp work?

A small box sits on the wall with four thin walls standing out from it and one LED in front. The LED shines past the edges of those walls, so their outline — and any shapes cut out of them — is thrown across the wall many times larger. A 15 cm lamp throws a shadow about 70 cm tall.

What does it cost?

Designing and previewing is free. The printed lamp — walls, box, LED, switch and your front panel — is ₹1,299 + 18% GST, delivered free across India. The STL walls on their own are ₹599 + 18% GST, to print yourself.

What kind of image works best?

A bold silhouette: a dark shape on a light or transparent background, like a stencil. SVG is ideal because it stays sharp at any size, but PNG and JPG work too. Thin light lines inside the shape come through as glowing lines on the wall. Make sure the shape covers the lamp in the middle, or the walls will have nothing to stand on.

How accurate is the shadow preview?

The wall shadow is ray traced from the walls we will actually print, and the tool shows how closely it matches your artwork — usually 95% or more. Every edge is cut along the path of the light, so even 5 mm walls throw a sharp shadow instead of a smeared one.

How do I get the STL after paying?

It unlocks on the order confirmation page as soon as the payment clears, and you can come back for it any time from the download page with your order number and email. The walls come laid flat in one STL, ready to slice.

What goes on the front of the lamp?

Your choice: upload a photo or artwork for the front panel when you order, or leave it plain black so the shadow is the whole design.
